Motion Offense Playbook

(note plays will continue to be added overtime to this page)

Motion Offense Principles:

  • Moving the ball and players to create space and open passing lanes.
  • Utilizing screens and off-ball movement to free up shooters and cutters.
  • Reading the defense and making quick decisions based on how they are playing.
  • Getting into the paint and creating scoring opportunities through ball movement and player movement.
  • Continuously moving and cutting to keep the defense on their toes.
  • Using ball screens and pick-and-rolls to create mismatches and open up driving lanes.
Play 1

  • The point guard brings the ball up the court and initiates the offense by passing to the wing player on the right side.
  • The wing player passes the ball back to the point guard, who then sets a screen for the big man at the top of the key.
  • The big man cuts to the basket, looking for a pass from the point guard.
  • If the big man does not receive the pass, he continues cutting to the opposite side of the court, setting a screen for the wing player who originally passed the ball to the point guard.
  • The wing player cuts off the screen and looks for a pass from the point guard or the other wing player.
  • As all this is happening, the other wing player is moving around the perimeter, looking for an open shot or a chance to cut to the basket.
  • Meanwhile, the point guard is looking to drive to the basket or pass to an open shooter.
  • The whole time, the players should be moving and cutting, trying to create space and open passing lanes.
