Full Court Press
- Objective: To disrupt the opposing team's offense and force turnovers
- Personnel: 3 guards, 2 forwards
- Instructions:
- The three guards will apply full-court pressure on the opposing team's ball handlers, trying to force them to make mistakes or take bad shots.
- The two forwards will drop back to the free-throw line and act as rovers, ready to step in and double team the ball handler if the guards are beaten.
- All five players must communicate effectively and work together to prevent easy passes and force the opposing team to take tough shots.
- When the opposing team breaks the press, the three guards should retreat quickly to their defensive positions and play tough half-court defense, while the forwards should crash the boards and look for putback opportunities.
- The press should be used judiciously, as it can be tiring for the players and leave them vulnerable if the press is broken.
- The Press should be called at the right time, for example when the opposing team is struggling, or when the team has a lead and want to extend it
- The press should be used selectively, calling it off if it is not working, or if the opposing team has a weakness that can be exploited in a different way.
